Belgium Waffling

7/30/10 6:30 PM (Belgium Time) We are current traveling through Belgium on our way to Amsterdam. This morning we left London at 8 AM and went to Dover, where we took the ferry to the Port of Calais in France. The white cliffs of Dover were very impressive site, and a great departure place from England. The ferry was like a mini cruise, with a bar, multiple restaurants and a convenience/liquor store. Still, I was happy when were off the boat and once again on our way. The French countryside was initially very interesting, but quickly grew repetitive as we went on. Farmland is farmland, no matter what country you're in.

We stopped in Belgium shortly before Antwerp to use the bathroom. Like most bathrooms here, you have to pay to use it. However, the tour guide said Karis didn't have to pay because she was a child. This has been an interesting trend throughout Europe. On both flights on Iceland Air, Karis received a meal; not just a small meal, but little sausages, mashed potatoes, trail mix, a granola bar, and a juice box. When we got on our bus tour yesterday, they gave Karis a packet with an informative coloring book, and nothing for us. I'm curious if this is trend that will continue throughout europe, or just an odd coincidence that she has gotten so much special treatment so far.

7/30/10 8 :00 PM Just enjoyed an amazing salad at a Netherlands restaurant called La Place. Europe has been quite the culinary delight already.

This is Celeste. Everyone went to get dessert and I'm watching the back packs. We are having a wonderful time. The best part is, we are all getting along so far and are still in a state of wonder and amazement. Hopefully, that won't end. We had the BEST time yesterday touring London by bus and the Thames by boat. Then we had fish and chips for supper and Kyra and I even got VEGETARIAN fish and chips (made with cheese--delicious!!!). We decided London was a place we could live, but you'd have to have a little place in the country to get away from it all once in awhile.
